Day 4 - One To Remember

Blue sky and sunshine! No need to debate today’s activity. Our carriage waits across the car park.

Three consecutive cable cars take us from 1370m to 3462m at Punta Helbronner, where we absorb the views before transferring to yet another car for a seated thirty-minute crossing of the glaciers to Aiguille du Midi at 3842m, high above Chamonix.

On a clear day, this is a ‘must-do’. Everyone we saw was smiling at the thrill of being in such an astonishing location, and at the ease of getting there. At July 2008 exchange rates it costs just over £40 sterling, and it is worth every last penny. There’s a website:


Returning sated with scenery we take the bus to Courmayeur for essential shopping, and our evening follows its usual pattern, during which we learn that our nickname is The Four Musketeers.
